- Establishment – Aims
The Company Pafos Aphrodite Festival Cyprus (P.A.F.C) was founded in 1998 with founding members the Municipality of Pafos, the Municipality of Geroskipou, the Municipality of Pegeia, the Pafos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cyprus Hoteliers Association – Pafos Regional Committee.
The Company’s establishment was the result of the cooperation between these five organisations in the Pafos District, aiming at promoting Pafos as an international centre of high - profile cultural events, thus contributing to the international promotion and elevation of Cyprus in the cultural and tourist sectors.
The Company is a non-profit organisation and its basic aims are the organisation – management of one internationally acclaimed annual cultural event as well as other cultural events in the District of Pafos.
The Founding sponsor is the Republic of Cyprus through the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
- The Company’s Course and Achievements
1998: Three concerts of the Budapest Concert Orchestra MAV at the ancient Odeon in Kato Pafos.
1999: 1st “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 10, 11 and 12 September presenting Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida by the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow at the Medieval Castle Square
2000: 1st “Akamas Festival” presenting the classical music ensemble “Monasteria Ensemble” from Germany with performances at various hotels in Pafos from 14 to 17 April.
2000: 2nd “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 8,9,10 and 11 September presenting George Bizet’s Carmen by the National Opera of Estonia.
2001: 2nd “Akamas Festival” presenting the classical music ensembles: “Edinburgh Quartet” from Scotland, “Lodron Ensemble” from France and “Paul Hofhaimer” from Austria with performances at various hotels in Pafos from 16 to 18 March and on 23- 24 and 30-31 March respectively.
2001: 3rd “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 31 August and on 1 and 2 September presenting Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco and on 4 and 5 September Lorca Massine and Mikis Theodorakis’ Zorba the Greek by the National Opera of Poland.
2002: 3rd “Akamas Festival” presenting the ensembles “G-Strings” and “Son Dos” with performances at various hotels in Pafos on 29- 30 March and on 31 March and 1 of April respectively.
2002: 4th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 6, 7 and 8 September presenting Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot by the National Opera of Poland.
2003: 4th “Akamas Festival” presenting the classical music ensembles “Kaprizma Ensemble” from Israel and
“I Solisti di Varsovia” from Poland on 21- 22 March and on 28- 29 March respectively.
2003: 5th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 5, 6 and 7 September presenting Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca by the Festival of Arena di Verona.
2004: 6th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 3, 4 and 5 September presenting Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto by the National Opera of Poland.
2005: 7th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 2, 3 and 4 September presenting Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata by the National Opera of Poland.
2006: 8th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 1, 2 and 3 September presenting Giuseppe Verdi’s Un ballo in Maschera by the Mariinsky State Academic Theatre of St Petersburg.
2007: 9th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 31 August and on 1 and 2 September presenting Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore by The Abai State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (Kazakhstan)
2008: The 10th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 29, 30 and 31 August presenting Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly by The Lyric Theatre “Giuseppe Verdi” of Trieste (Italy)
2009: The 11th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 4, 5 and 6 September presenting Léo Delibes’ Lakmé by The National Opera of Sofia
2010: The 12th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 3, 4 and 5 September presenting Giacomo Puccini’s: La Bohème by the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre.
2011: The 13th “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” on 2, 3 and 4 September presenting Jacques Offenbach’s: Les Contes d’Hoffmann by the Opera of the National Theatre Prague.

At the P.A.F.C Board of Directors the Municipality of Pafos is represented by four members, the Municipality of Geroskipou by two, the Municipality of Pegeia, the Pafos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Pafos District Committee of the Cyprus Hoteliers Association by one each.
